FOCUS Pty Ltd is a small planning consultancy which has a strong track record in producing creative results for its clients. Our work includes social, cultural and economic planning as well as town planning and business planning. This has been recognised by numerous awards.
Previously operating from a Queensland base with a team of staff, Director Jane Stanley now operates from a home office in rural Victoria as a sole operator.
Gnarly Planning
Jane wrote the planning textbook “Gnarly Planning” more than ten years ago, to much critical acclaim.
In Australia it won several awards from the Planning Institute of Australia, and overseas it was promoted by UN Habitat and the Commonwealth Association of Planners. Several universities used it as a core resource.
How to build local economies (and stop relying on trickle down economics)
Jane has contributed to the New Urban Agenda which was launched by UN Habitat at Habitat III in Quito, October 2016. A handbook of How to Build Local Economies was launched at the World Urban Forum in Kuala Lumpur in 2019. It is intended that a second edition of Gnarly Planning will be launched at the Asia Pacific Urban Forum in 2023.
Work in Australia
Jane has worked with her colleague Mark Glover in supporting several local and State governments in developing waste management solutions, using smarter thinking as well as new technologies.
Jane is currently working with the dairy industry in south-west Victoria, where she is actively involved in regenerative agriculture. She has worked on farm energy systems with Keemin Energy and Agvet, soil carbon projects with Heytesbury District Landcare Network, and individual farm plans for particular farmers.
